Navarra lies in the north of Spain. It has a total area of 9.801 km², a population of 593.472, and 272 municipal areas. It borders to the west on the País Vasco, to the south on La Rioja, to the east on Aragon and to the north on France. The highest mountain peak of this autonomous community is 2444 meters high. One-third of the population lives here. The city is very green and makes it an attractive tourist destination. The region south of Pamplona is similar to parts of Castilla: dry, lacking rain and warm. To the north, the area is similar to that of Aquitaine's forest: it is cool and dry.
