Madrid lies in the very centre of Spain. It has a total area of 8.022 km˛, a population of 5.964.143, and 179 municipal areas. It has the same boundaries as the province of Madrid, and the city of Madrid is the capital of the the province, the autonomous community and the country. Madrid borders on the autonomous communities of Castilla y Leon (provinces of Ávila and Segovia) and on Castilla La Mancha (provinces of Guadalajara, Cuenca, and Toledo).. More than 50% of the community’s population lives in the capital. Other important cities in this community are Alcalá de Henares, Torrejón de Ardoz, Coslada, Getafe, Móstoles, San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Navalcarnero and Aranjuez. The airport of Madrid is Barajas International Airport, code MAD. Barajas is the main gateway to Spain from Europe, America and the rest of the world. The new Terminal 4 is the largest airport terminal in Europe.
